English Lunch Tableで外国人教員とコミュニケーション
キャンパス内のカフェで、週に１度催される「English Lunch Table」は、ランチやお茶を楽しみながら外国人教員と英語でおしゃべりを楽しむ場です。
教員や仲間との自然な会話の中から、英語を学ぶことができます。
また、保育科学生のための English Lunch Table も開催しています。おしゃべりを通して簡単な日常英会話が身につきます。
生きた英語を学ぶ演習と講義が充実
週8時間の「Oral Communication･Oral English」や4時間の「リーディング」、４時間の「英作・文法」など、とことん英語を学べるのが本学の特徴。また、外国人教員比率は国内でもトップクラス。
生きた英語を修得するのに最適な環境です。
授業外サポートでTOEICや英検に挑戦
TOEICのスコアUPのための特別講座や英検対策講座を開講。また、TOEIC高得点取得者や英検２級以上を取得した学生には奨励金があります。
英作文能力アップのためには、外国人教員が指導するライティングセンターも活用でき、学生のやる気をサポートします。
語学の実践スキルを高めるカリキュラム
上級のコースを受講することで、語学学習に対する意識を高め、実践的なスキルを養成します。
「コミュニケーション」「ライティング」「同時通訳」「プレゼンテーション」などを深く学ぶことができます。
表現力を身につけるスピーチコンテスト
第３６回学内英語弁論大会１位は英語科１年生の松田智恵里さん。タイトルは’Found Myself in New York’でした。
毎年行われるこの大会では、学生たちが自由な演題で、４分から６分のスピーチを行います。大学生らしい思索の深さ、表現の豊かさ、発音の美しさ、アイコンタクトや表情、ジェスチャーから生まれる自然な雄弁さで聴衆を魅了します。

One of the distinctive features of OCU and OCJC is the large number of native speaker teachers from both North America, and the UK and Ireland. As well as helping students perfect their pronunciation, these tutors introduce English as it is actually spoken. If and when students get a chance to travel to English speaking countries they will already be somewhat accustomed to the natural rhythms and accents of the local population. And this is another benefit of studying at OCU and OCJC – there are numerous opportunities to study abroad, including short intensive courses in Hawaii, and six month placements at Portland Community College. Invariably the students who avail of these programs return to college much invigorated and with excellent English communication skills. Of course not everyone gets to travel abroad but even those students who don’t, still see a massive improvement in their English. This is thanks to the patience and dedication of their teachers, both foreign and Japanese, and also thanks to their own hard work. Once their fluency has improved, students get the chance to bring their skills to the next level in challenging classes like Current Issues or Advanced Writing or in the more relaxed atmosphere of the English lunch table. Whatever your preferred style of learning, OCU and OCJC will prepare you for a world in which English is the primary language of business and commerce.
